I'm looking to Germany for the future of computing. I read an article a while back about their fielding an optical system to a real world environment. Quantum computing isn't worth the cost when optical solves the cost by significantly reducing heat while increasing communication rate.

That's what photonics would be, but the speeds still result in a net positive.
